Nestled in the lush hills of Sintra, the Palace of Monserrate is a masterpiece of 19th-century Romanticism. Built under the direction of Sir Francis Cook, the palace combines Moorish, Gothic, and Indian architectural styles, creating a unique and exotic retreat. Surrounded by stunning botanical gardens featuring plants from around the world, Monserrate is a testament to Sintra’s status as a cultural and natural treasure, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Visiting the Palace of Monserrate was a highlight of my time in Portugal. The palace, with its intricate Moorish-inspired architecture, felt like stepping into a Moroccan dream, but surrounded by the lush greenery of Sintra. To avoid the midday crowds, I made it my first stop and was rewarded with the chance to capture its serene beauty in photographs that highlight its captivating design and atmosphere.
