Bufflo, New York, USA

Silo City, located along the Buffalo River in New York, is a historic site featuring a collection of grain elevators and silos that were once the backbone of Buffalo’s thriving grain industry. Built during the early 20th century, these towering structures symbolize the city’s prominence as a shipping and milling hub. Over the decades, the site has fallen into disrepair, leaving behind a hauntingly beautiful industrial landscape that draws photographers and artists from around the world.

I was fortunate to photograph Silo City three different times, each visit offering unique perspectives and challenges. Before shooting, all visitors are required to attend a safety briefing due to the hazardous conditions caused by the decay of these historic buildings. One early morning, as the warm sunlight grazed the silos, the interplay of light and shadows created a mesmerizing scene. The ladder running up the side of one silo disrupted the repetitive lines, adding a striking visual element. It was the perfect moment, and I knew I had captured something special.

Randy Van Duinen’s fine art photography is an ideal addition to any residential or corporate space. His work transforms industrial history into stunning visual art, offering timeless elegance and compelling stories for any environment.
